Aventura Mall is the place to kick off the fall fashion season, where you’ll find the most fabulous selection of best-of-the best trends—from apparel and accessories to home and entertaining available anywhere… under one roof. Take your semiannual closet appraisal, pinpoint your weak areas (everyone needs a seasonal pantsand- boots refresher) and stock up on what’s new for the impending [maybe not-so chilly] months ahead: So what if we’re not raking leaves or shivering on the streets? Here in South Florida, we’re still entitled to dress and accessorize like we are.

TRENDS
GAGA OVER LACE:Thanks to Lady Gaga, lace has transcended its sophisticated, ladylike identity and entered the realm of the cutting-edge. So as feminine as Stuart Weitzman’s (305.932.0080) Laceswoon ($365) pumps can make a LBD or black-tie gown, they can also vamp up a pair of Capri jeans and a baby tee. This season, satin and lace are as pretty as they are envelope-pushing.

A GIRLIER TAKE ON TOMBOY: A bit of androgyny is in the cards this season, which makes William Rast’s (305.931.0735) Tommy Tomboy Slouch chinos ($88) a must-have closet staple. The fit is both feminine—hugging in all the right places—yet boyish, with slouchy legs whose cuffs beg to be rolled. Pair them with a white ribbed tank top and boots to ooze a rock ‘n’ roll vibe, or chunky sky-high sandals for the consummate easy-breezy St. Tropez style.

ZIGZAG MANIA:This season is all about lots and lots of layers: Add differing textures and colors—from prints and florals to stripes and zigzags—and you’ve got a home-run ensemble. We love the look of M Missoni’s (305.466.3939) Fall/Winter 2010 collection, dotted with pieces in plenty of wintery browns, blacks, whites, grays, oranges and reds. Pile on legwarmers, scarves and tights for a super-cozy (and super-chic) silhouette.

MILITARY CHIC: If you’re worried about this season’s long skirts and frocks in feminine floral prints being too pretty-perfect, balance them out with some military-inspired Charles David (305.931.5933) lace-up boots. We love the Regiment ($385), with its moderate one-inch heel, an adjustable lace-up front and stitched cap toe detail—a sexy cross between Little House on the Prairie and the Ramones.

BRIGHT BANDAGES: Curves separate the women from the girls this fall, and showing them off after-dark is de rigueur. Don an unexpected pop of bright color down below, and keep your top half in the neutral zone. Case in point: Herve Leger’s (305.936.0334) Pencil Skirt ($650)—a dynamic, figure-flattering bandage style—in a vibrant shade of poppy, topped off with a clingy black tank with a plunging neckline.

BEACHY SHEEN: Never underestimate a swimsuit that’s more sophisticated than sporty. The Venezia Gaelcorato ($126) from Banana Moon (305.830.9445)—a French swimwear line designed in the spirit of California—is the quintessential day-to-night bikini. Its silver-gray hue has an unmistakable metallic sheen, and the top is permanently accessorized with eye-catching pearly beads. Spend all afternoon lounging on the sand, then throw on a sarong and espadrilles for dinner.

WHAT TO SEE
Donald Baechler emerged onto the international scene in the 1980’s. He has created a vocabulary for his art consisting of the most simple gestures and shapes, inspired in large part by the art of children. Fascinated by art created by the non-artists, Baechler imitates these naïve forms with a critical edge. Baechler’s work is included in the permanent collections of such prestigious museums as the Whitney Museum of American Art and Museum of Modern Art, and Guggenheim Museum in New York, and Centre George Pompidou in Paris. The Program Turnberry for the Arts is a dynamic cultural initiative of Turnberry Associates, owner and manager of Aventura Mall, that incorporates contemporary art and education at Aventura Mall. Recognizing the positive impact that art can have upon people of all ages from all walks of life, the mission of Turnberry for the Arts is to enhance the experiences of local residents and visitors from the U.S. and abroad in innovative ways. Aventura Mall is now home to a major contemporary art collection that is part of Turnberry for the Arts. This world-class collection incorporates a range of mediums that include sculpture and installation by renowned international and Miami artists. Several of the artworks are major site-specific commissions that artists created especially for the mall. South Florida has become well-known for its thriving art scene, and the collection also spotlights works by young artists who have emerged from Miami’s art world to receive international acclaim. “Turnberry for the Arts recognizes how contemporary art enriches people’s lives by engaging their senses, igniting their imaginations, and creating stimulating environments that they enjoy visiting. We are delighted to present exceptional artworks by leading contemporary artists in the unique and accessible setting of Aventura Mall.” Jacqueline Fletcher—Director, Turnberry for the Arts

WHAT TO DO
THE AMERICAN: Academy Award winner George Clooney stars in the title role of this suspense thriller, filmed on location in Italy. Alone among assassins, Jack (Clooney) is a master craftsman. When a job in Sweden ends more harshly than expected for this American abroad, he vows to his contact Larry (Bruce Altman) that his next assignment will be his last. Jack reports to the Italian countryside, where he holes up in a small town and relishes being away from death for a spell. The assignment, as specified by a Belgian woman, Mathilde (Thekla Reuten of “In Bruges”), is in the offing as a weapon is constructed. Surprising himself, Jack seeks out the friendship of local priest Father Benedetto (Italian stage and screen veteran Paolo Bonacelli) and pursues romance with local woman Clara (Italian leading lady Violante Placido). But by stepping out of the shadows, Jack may be tempting fate.
