As the steamy summer vacation season sets in, it’s time to pack your suitcase with the best of what’s hot now. A slew of must-have trends abound, including many fresh shapes, styles and hues you’re unlikely to have sitting in last year’s closet or will need a few key pieces to freshen up. Recognizing the positive impact that art can have upon people of all ages from all walks of life, the mission of Turnberry for the Arts is to enhance the experiences of local residents and visitors from the U.S. and abroad in innovative ways. The Turnberry for the Arts collection currently features outstanding artworks by some of the world’s most renowned contemporary artist, including Donald Baechler, Louise Bourgeois, Gary Hume, Jorge Pardo, Jaume Plensa, Julian Opie, Lawrence Weiner, Tom Otterness, and Friends With You. This image represents the work of Julian Opie. Julian Opie culls images from popular culture and transforms them into highly stylized digitized images. The artist also experiments with light and animation techniques to create “walking portraits” that are installed in public environments and interact with viewers going about their daily routines. Drawn with bold simple lines, the figures in these animated portraits appear to walk continuously. Inspired by advertising and mass-media images, Opie’s depictions of people and objects appear generic, yet reveal unique idiosyncrasies.
